of Outdoor Adventures
Some of my trips are just day-hikes or sport climbing. But even those can become adventures sometimes. Guess what I did last week. . . : )

Ice climbing in Ouray with Jono & Terry

Happy New Year! Jono, Terry and I went to Ouray for the New Year. It was spectacularly fun!

Jono and Terry were coming up from Salburquerque, which puts me about two hours out of their way. So, I was to meet them in Ouray on Friday night. I wanted to get there a little early in the day to try on some ice climbing boots and look at some other gear over at Ouray Mountain Sports. I didn't buy any boots, but I did get a new set of crampons. My old Rambos were getting quite worn. All I really wanted was a set of new mono-points but Bill, the owner, gave me such a deal that I walked out with a new pair of Rambo Comps for almost nothing (sort of). Actually, he took my old Rambos and a pair of Pez\tzl Sarkans, that I never use, in trade. Bill does a lot of business in used gear. I'll be going to see him a lot! Anyway, I hung out at the shop for an hour after closing talking to Bill. What a cool, interesting guy. He moved to a small mountain town on purpose to run a small gear shop and start a family. Bill's definitely got his priorities figured out.

Afterward, I headed over to the Mexican restaurant in town for a quick dinner and a beer. I had every intention of being asleep at the motel by the time Terry and Jono rolled in to town. That was the plan, anyway. . . <read more>
